Relaxation, Self-Care & Childhood Memories

A funny thing happened while I was getting a pedicure the other day. As the nail technician was massaging the foot scrub into my lower legs, I leaned my head back to enjoy the moment of relaxation and self-care. Just then, she started to hum.
Seems normal enough, but the sound instantly triggered a wave of nostalgia. My mind drifted back to childhood—lying in my grandmother’s arms as she rocked us both in her old wooden rocking chair. Whenever I had trouble sleeping or woke from a bad dream, she would rock me gently and sing Baa Baa Black Sheep. When she was too tired to sing or forgot the words, she would just hum.
The moment the nail tech began humming, my brain lit up with that memory. It was so vivid, so clear. I felt the same overwhelming sense of calm and comfort my grandmother always provided. Although I wasn’t crying, a single tear rolled down my cheek—the memory was that intense.
Thankfully, it’s allergy season, so watery eyes aren’t out of place or cause for concern!
Have you ever had a memory so vivid that it felt like time travel? Something so clear it connects your present-day self-care with the comfort of your childhood memories?
