Another Dog Mom Talk
A friend of mine has a good friend whose dog recently passed away.
Dog readings always get a little emotional for me because I am such a dog person.
I received a cluster of four pictures, and generally when I get a group of pictures like that, I'll just look at them for a second or two and slide through them. There will almost always be one picture that's just a punch in the gut.
I'm like, "All right. That's the picture I'm supposed to focus on."
That's exactly what happened with this one.
This was the picture I needed to focus on, so that's what I did.
And, of course, the dog ones always get me. They always get me choked up.
I knew the young woman was having a really hard time getting over her pet's passing, but I didn't know exactly what had happened. I didn't know if he had run away, passed naturally, or if she had to put him down.
One of the strongest things I kept getting was this image or feeling of him running free.
It turns out that he had a tumor in his leg that had basically ruptured and was bleeding. It was a big old mess, and she ultimately had to make the decision to put him down.
I still get that lump in my throat thinking about it.
But once I heard about what happened with his leg, the image of him running free made so much sense to me.
That image was my way of being able to tell her, "It's good. He's good."
If you've listened to enough of my episodes, you know how I believe this works. Once we get out of this machine we call a body, we get our flexibility back. Everything works again. You're not in pain anymore.
That's why I believe I kept seeing this dog running through a field.
His leg worked.
He could run.
And I felt like I was supposed to pass that along to her—to let her know, Don't worry. Everything is okay.
There was another part of the reading that I absolutely loved.
Her cat had started acting strangely. It was almost as if the cat was looking for the dog, and she was wondering if maybe he was still around.
I explained to her that I felt like her grief was bringing him close, but I also believe he'll continue to be around because he loved her so much.
There were so many happy memories connected to her.
What really came through for me was the level of contentment and safety this dog experienced with her—something I felt he hadn't always had before.
And that's huge.
I know I say that a lot, but when you think about animals that have been abused, neglected, abandoned, or simply haven't known what it feels like to be completely safe and loved, finally finding that home of blissful happiness is a wonderful thing.
I also believe animals can have several incarnations, just like humans do. So when one of them gets to experience a lifetime where they finally know that kind of love and safety, I think it matters.
And he knew it.
I know it probably sounds silly to some people when I talk about animals this way, but I believe they have minds, emotions, connections, and relationships, too.
And the message I got from him was actually pretty beautiful:
He knows he'll never be replaced.
But he also wants her to continue being the amazing dog mom that she is to other animals who need her.
She has this big heart, and she needs to keep sharing it.
Sometimes when we lose an animal we love, we think, I'll never have another dog like that.
And you won't.
Or we think, I couldn't possibly replace that dog.
But you're not replacing them.
There are so many animals out there that need our love, and I really believe our animals want us to keep sharing it. They're not on this planet nearly as long as we are, which means we have plenty of time—and plenty of love—to give to more than one of them during our lifetime.
I know when my first dog passed away—and I don't mean a family dog, I mean the first dog who was really mine—it took me months before I could get another dog.
It's hard.
But eventually you realize there is still love to give, and there are more animals out there who need it.
I also received some videos of the cat, and I had the feeling that the dog was definitely visiting the cat during the day.
At night, it was almost like the cat was wondering, Where did the dog go?
That part really hit home for me because when I had an older dog pass away, I slept on the couch for two weeks afterward. The other animals in the house needed time to adjust to the passing, too. They knew someone was missing.
I also believe animals are much more in tune with the spirit realm than we give them credit for.
So yes, I absolutely felt like this dog was visiting the cat, and the cat was looking for him.
Super cute.
And I know I say "so" entirely too often. Sometimes I listen back to these recordings and I'm like, Why do I keep saying that? I'm trying, guys. I'm trying.
Anyway, that's really the heart of this reading.
It's incredibly tough to lose a pet.
There's the crying. There's the grief. And sometimes there's even that little voice that says, Why am I this upset? He was just a dog.
But they're not just dogs.
They're family members.
We love them dearly.
And even though I've done readings involving animals before, it still seems a little strange to me sometimes. I'm sitting here talking about communicating with someone's dog and thinking, Yep. Apparently this is a thing I do now.
I can't stop it, so here we are.
But one thing that seems to come through again and again is that our animals know how much we love them.
And they don't want that love to stop with them.
Animals don't seem to have the same kind of selfishness or possessiveness that humans sometimes do. They want you to share the love. They want you to spread it.
So to this young woman: Have your grieving time.
Cry.
Miss him.
Talk about him.
Remember him.
But also know that getting another dog someday is okay.
You're not replacing him.
You're simply giving another animal the opportunity to experience the same love, safety, happiness, and contentment that he was so incredibly grateful to have with you.
And if stories like this resonate with you—or you've had experiences with your own animals, intuition, energy, or loved ones that you can't quite explain—come join us in the Medium in Motion Clubhouse on Skool. It's a place where we can share these experiences, ask questions, submit pictures, and talk about the things that don't always fit neatly into everyday conversation.
Seriously, thank you for being here.
