Safety Harbor Florida Haunted Hotel Stay: Paranormal Experiences You Need to Hear
It shouldn't be funny, but it kinda is.
My husband and I had friends come to visit. These two are our longest friendship, dating back to 1996 when my husband and I met. They have 2 kids now 18 and 20. The 18 year old son had a baseball tournament in Ft. Myers, Florida so they arranged for the family to fly into Tampa, have a meal with us and then drive to the tournament. I always forget how much we laugh when we are all together. Those good hearty belly laughs.
Anyway, we ate and they left for the tournament. Since the games ended on Sunday and they didn't fly out until Monday they drove back up to spend more time with us. As they drove my girlfriend asked if the Safety Harbor Spa was a nice place to stay. I told her that's where most everyone that visits us stays, if not with us. My husband added to make sure she calls and asks for one of the newly renovated rooms. The spa has been added to several times and he wanted to make sure she asked for a newer room, as appose to the original wing built in the 1920s.
She didn't listen.
She booked online as they drove up this way. We met them at the spa and she checked in. We filled the luggage cart and headed up to their room. It was in the old or original section of the hotel. As you walk up and turn the corner there is a room with a glass door. Her daughter asked "Why does that man's room have a glass door?" My husband answered "That's just a feature room to show you what the rooms were like in the 1920s" To which she replied"Well there is a man in there." Her mother chimed in with a rational answer "It's probably a maintenance worker" to which my husband chimed in "Well this place is haunted as fuck!" Recognizing the horror struck faces he quickly tried to recant by saying "I'm just kidding"
We dropped their stuff off and wandered around town talking and laughing like we always do. It was a little past midnight when we left and headed home.
What It’s Really Like to Stay at a Haunted Hotel in Safety Harbor Florida
The next morning I texted my girlfriend and asked how she is doing and what time we are meeting for breakfast.
Her reply" I would never stay at this place ever again even if they paid me."
We got to breakfast and the story of their horrible night began.
Apparently around 2:30 a.m. she heard a woman's blood curdling scream. There were sounds from the floor above of people running and she swears she heard the sound of metal dropping to the floor. Knowing how gun friendly Florida is she was horrified at the thought that a gun might go off and shoot through the floor. Which FYI only happens in movies.
I leaned over to my husband and said "it was probably a musket" we laughed and in a joking tone she called us a bunch of ass holes.
He daughter chimed in that it had to be paranormal, but my friend was still insisting that it was drunk people from the wedding that had taken place there that night.
Her daughter explained that there is no way a person could run that fast in that little of a space. And the rooms are carpeted so if a metal object fell it wouldn't sound like it did.
My husband and I tried to hold our laughter, though I don't think we were doing a very good job at it.
She continued to explain that she was lying in bed with her sneakers on ready to leave but was too afraid of bumping into a murderer in the hallway so she stayed in bed, yes, with her sneakers on.
Her daughter continued to explain that while she was waiting for them to wake up she was searching on her phone and there is a website that has a forum on the Safety Harbor Spa. Everyone is reporting hearing all the same noises and experiencing all the same events that they did that night. Every contributor stayed in room 323, 325, 327 and they stayed in 326.
My husband said "That's why I told you to call and ask for one of the newly renovated rooms but you wanted to book online"
She replied half serious/half laughing " I didn't think I had to do that because the place is haunted!"
So now she is willing to take plane and car reservation ideas from us but we are banned from hotel recommendations.
Moral of the story,
If you want an authentic paranormal experience head over to the Safety Harbor Resort and Spa and ask for an original room in the 300 wing. Otherwise, go with new and renovated.
As a medium I can tell you that most places are haunted, and certainly most hotels. It can become difficult to enjoy the atmosphere of any place when you are always feeling watched, or you have to ignore the voice in your head. Which sounds a bit skitso as I type it, but that is why my grandparents had to hide their gifts.
Yup that's another Blog.
